The most significant thing to happen to me in the summer of 2013
I now like white wine.
You just fell out of your chair, right?
Well, it’s significant in that I was a sworn red-only drinker for, I dunno, my whole life, until I started drinking some whites this summer.
Spontaneous wine tastings with Someone, light seafood dinners where red just wouldn’t do, and the Julyness of July led me to crave a thirst-quenching, cold glass of whiteness. Bonus? My hangovers are a lot less wicked and my drunks are a lot more fun!
My new first-world problem is that although I can tell you my favorite reds by brand, region, and winery, I know NOTHING about the whites I like (or don’t, as is often more apt). It’s a total trial and error situation, whereby I order many a glass and buy many a bottle that I either LOVE or HATE. (So far, it’s the pinot grigios I like the best, and I had a chard/gris blend the other day that was my favorite of all.)
But the coolest thing to help someone like little old me is the App called Delectable. It lets you take pictures of wine bottles you like, keep notes and comments, and recommends new ones for you to try. It makes it easier than remembering way too late (or drunkenly) to type in the name of the vineyard into your notes field. I have a note that simply says “Stella” — that’s either the name of my future golden puppy or the wine I had last week, I’m not sure. (It’s both.)
Delectable is free and fun! So while we’re on the topic, anyone have any favorite white recs for me to try?
