You know that Swiffer commercial where the Mom has so much time after cleaning that she is going to read a book?
That’s how I felt about getting to do some pleasure reading on my Christmas break. And, just in the nick of time, a mere 13 hours before classes begin, I was able to finish The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry.
I highly recommend it. This novel kind of reminded me of another British protagonist I loved, Major Pettigrew.
But Harold was different. One day, retired Harold receives a letter from an old friend who is dying. As he goes out to post his response, he finds himself unable to stop at the mailbox, and he just keeps going…and going. More than six hundred miles.
This book is so unassumingly perfect. I loved every word.
